Senior Happenings

By Senior Center Director Tammy Jackman

Can you believe it is February already? My goodness January just flew by. I think it was because we were so busy here at the center that when we finally looked at the calendar it was the end of the month. February will be equally busy, I think.

We started the cooking class on January 12th. It was a HUGE success, with about 15 people each week. At the end of the 9 week course everyone will receive a new Insta Pot. Each week is a wonderful recipe, week 1 was kale and quinoa salad, week 2 turkey spaghetti and week 3 was chicken taco soup. It is a great time to learn some new recipes, have some fun and get in a little socializing too. You can still join this class if you would like, contact the Extension office at 436-2424 or Tammy at 436-2635.

Another new activity we have started is chair yoga with Cressi Johnson. She is fabulous and she adapts the moves to the abilities of each participant. We have quite a group meeting on Tuesday and Thursday mornings at 9 a.m., if you would like to join just come on down, we will make room for you. For those who would like to do yoga but need something a little more difficult she is also offering morning and evening classes. Contact the Extension office at 436-2424 for more information.

The free turkey dinner was also a success. We had more people than last year which is great and Tracy Vail came through again with a wonderful meal. We were even able to send out a few meals to people who were not able to attend.

We will have the arthritis exercise classes each Monday and Wednesday at 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. Stop by and join in, we always have room for more.

We play cards every afternoon so if you are getting bored sitting at home come down and join us, we would love to have you. The ladies do handwork and have lunch a couple of days a month and in February those days are the 14th and the 28th. If you enjoy handwork, visiting and then a really good lunch stop in, the more the merrier. We will be playing Bunco on the 27th at 1 p.m.

I have started looking at and planning trips starting in May. If anyone has any ideas about places to visit or things to do, please let me know.

Congregate Meals: 2/1 Vegetable Beef Soup, BLT, Chips, Cupcake; 2/8 Italian Wedding Soup, Spaghetti/Meatballs, Breadsticks, Pudding; 2/15 Chicken Noodle Soup, Fried Chicken, Mashed Potato, Corn, Brownie; 2/22 Clam Chowder Soup, Baked Cod, Buttered Noodles, Cookie.

We have a few food bank boxes left and will be getting a new shipment in a week, so if you need some extra help with your groceries come down and pick one up.

The Senior Center will be closed on 2/20 to observe President’s Day.

Have a fabulous February!
