Despite multiple members of the team absent from meets for the spring concert, BPA Nationals, and personal reasons such as a funeral, the Broadus track team soldiered on to a team win at the small meet in Baker last week, and placed well at the Harlo/Park City meet in Laurel.

At the Baker meet, the Hawk boys won the meet, beating larger teams such as Baker and Bowman, ND. The Lady Hawks placed third overall.

At the Harlo/Park City Meet the team members performed exceptionally well, with 14 personal records set on the day.

"That's what we like to see," Broadus Head Coach Jerry Coulter said during an interview on Monday.

Thomas Oylear ran to first place in the 1600 and 3200, Zeason Schaffer jumped for first place in the high jump, Eli Heacock ran to great times in the 800 and 1600, and Maddie Zimmer ran well in the 400.

On Tuesday, three members of the track team competed in the Midland Roundtable Top 10 Meet in Laurel. The meet features the top 10 athletes from southeastern Montana, with a mix of all classes.

Mia Mader made the meet in the high jump, clearing 5'0" to qualify. Zeason Schaffer competed in the high jump as well, clearing 5'2" to qualify. Thomas Oylear qualified in both the 1600 and 3200 meter races, running 4:32 and 9:51, respectively. Oylear turned in the fastest times in both races in all of Montana Class C, in the last week of April. We will have results from the Top 10 next week, as races don't conclude until after we've gone to print.

The team finishes out their regular season this Thursday in Fairview. Coach Coulter mentioned that he schedules the team for the Fairview Meet due to it giving a little extra time for recovery before Districts, which takes place next Thursday in Baker, beginning at 10 AM. Fairview features 12 teams, many from NE Montana and North Dakota, which presents a new challenge for the Broadus team.

The Elementary Track Meet is scheduled for May 12th. Coulter said that anyone who would like to volunteer at the meet, whether writing down times, raking out the long jump pits, or the variety of other tasks inherent to a track meet should give him a call.
