Jesse Grant, a police officer working for the Monterey County Sheriff's Department in Central California, was involved in an incident last Wednesday in which he was shot twice with an AK-47.

Grant is a 2001 graduate of PRCDHS, and has been a police officer for 17 years.

The incident occurred while Grant was serving an eviction notice on an individual in Salinas, a town of around 163,000 in the Monterey Bay area, south of San Francisco.

Grant was shot once in the arm and once in the torso, and was then evacuated to Natividad Medical Center, where he received treatment and was released earlier this week.

The shooter, a 67 year old male resident of Salinas by the name of Erin Howard Fischer, was fatally shot by authorities later in the day, ending a 9-hour standoff in which Fischer shot down seven police department drones. Fischer barricaded himself into the apartment, and was found to have three semi-automatic rifles, two bolt action rifles, and two handguns, according to reports by the Monterey Herald.

Upon leaving the hospital, Grant was greeted by a line-up of area police officers and fire crews, bidding him well wishes.

Jesse is now recovering at home in California with his wife, Lacey, and son, Jack.

Following graduation from Broadus, Jesse went into the Army in the summer of 2001. When the Iraq War kicked off in 2003, Grant went over the berm into Iraq with the first wave of troops while serving as a Cavalry Scout with the 3rd Infantry Division.

After leaving the Army, Grant began his career in law enforcement, serving in several specialized roles such as the bomb squad and as a K9 officer.

Grant is the son of Nancy Sampson Grant, formerly of Broadus, and the late Robert Grant.

A fund has been set up by Jesse's friends to help his recovery, with 100% of funds reportedly going to benefit the former Broadus resident.
