4-H Camp Needmore Highlights

By PR Extension Office

"Welcome to the Wilderness" was an appropriate theme at the annual 4-H Camp Needmore near Ekalaka, last week. Nineteen Powder River County 4-H members, Teen Counselor, Becca Aye, and MSU Extension Agents Mary Rumph and Julie Riley joined nearly 120 additional campers for the event. Fitting into the theme, a large bull snake visited camp...and was promptly rehomed a distance from the cabins.

Workshops included the popular rappelling off the cliffs, shooting sports, a nature walk, crafting, dancing, atlatl and learning about bats and pollinators, specifically honeybees; and the wildlife that existed prior to human inhabitants in the area. The weather was beautiful up until two hours prior to departure from camp when a deluge of rain hit the area, dampening departure, according to Rumph.

In addition to Extension Agents Rumph and Riley, participants included Becca Aye, Teen Counselor; Sophie Ostendorf, Krystin and Avery Kramme, Kaley and Grady Rumph, Kaylan Reaves, Faith and Given Hopkins, Courtney Kuhbacher, Anna Hagedorn, Kinzie Randall, Scarlett Talcott, Delaney Ruland, Reece, Maci and Trace Emmons, Cody and Cole Draine, and William Rodda.
