Michaley Knapp of Ashland has won the VFW Auxiliary's 2023 Young American Creative Patriotic Art Contest for the state of Montana. She received a Certificate of Merit and a check for $100 from the State VFW Auxiliary, presented by Margaret Scoles, local Patriotic Art Chair for the Auxiliary.
Her artwork went on to be judged at the national level and to compete for $37,000 in awards. She had earlier been presented with the local District award and a $60 check at PRCHS graduation in May. Her acrylic painting artwork, titled Honor the Fallen, depicted powerful images of a soldier who made the ultimate sacrifice with the text, "May We Never Forget Freedom Isn't Free".
Michaley, a 2023 PRCDHS Grad, plans to be a firefighter in her future, following in her father's footsteps. She also plans to continue painting as a hobby.
