SENIOR HAPPENINGS

By Senior Center Director Tammy Jackman

Fall is in the air and with it a reminder that we will be closed Monday, September 4th in observance of Labor Day.

Last month, we had several days of cards, either 500 or hand and foot, some sewing days and a Ladies Lunch Out. We would love to have some new friends come to either play on a regular basis or be substitutes for cards, bring some hand work, have a good visit and then have lunch with us or join us on our monthly Ladies Lunch Out. We alternate between restaurants for Ladies Lunch Out. We finally got 3 tables for Bunco and man was it fun. We have such a good time visiting and laughing and of course snacking. If you would like to join us for any of these activities contact Tammy or just drop in.

The SAIL (Stay Active & Independent for Life) exercises will resume again at 10 a.m. on Monday and Wednesday mornings, starting Monday, September 11th. Julie will only be offering the morning session this winter but will focus more on strength training rather than aerobics. I love how she just shifts to the needs of our senior community. Thank you for always adjusting to our needs and schedule.

Stitching days are the 12th and 26th, Ladies Lunch Out is on the 14th at noon at PR Lanes and Bunco will be on the 19th at 1:00. Our September trip will be to Deadwood on the 21st. This trip will be more of a do your own thing kind of trip. There is so much to see and do that we will just set a time and place to meet back at and let everyone go their own way.

We always have people to thank every month for donations to the food bank and Senior Center in general.

This month we would like to thank Lori Dinstel for eggs, Cathy Ruland, Shelley West and Russ Greenwood for garden produce, Donna Giacometto for eggs and garden produce and Marj Mader for misc. items. We want to give a huge shout out to Southeast Electric out of Ekalaka for coming over to our fair and purchasing a 4-H beef at the livestock auction and then very graciously donating it to the Powder River Food Bank. You guys seriously ROCK! Any kind of meat is always tough to keep in the freezer here at the center and we are so very appreciative to have a whole beef to work with. Please keep us in mind if you ever find you just have no more room in your freezer. We also have the funds to have an animal processed if need be.

Congregate Meal:

9/6—Italian Wedding Soup, Spaghetti and Garlic Bread, Ice Cream Sundaes

9/13—Potato Soup, Chicken Fried Steak, Mashed Potatoes, Corn, Apple Crisp

9/20—Chicken Noodle Soup, Baked Chicken/ Stuffing, Strawberry Brow-nie

9/27—Corn Chowder, Pork Chops, Scalloped Potatoes, Green Beans, Peanut Butter Poke Cake

I hope everyone has a great Labor Day weekend and a cool and enjoyable September.
