SENIOR HAPPENINGS

September 28, 2023

By Senior Center Director Tammy Jackman

I hope everyone is enjoying the cooler weather as much as I am. I know cooler weather means Winter is coming, but Spring will always follow.

I was gone quite a bit in September but Karen kept the center running like a well oiled machine. I appreciate her help more than she knows. SAIL exercises have started again, every Monday and Wednesday morning at 10 a.m. We have quite a group already but there is always room for more, so come on down, visit and get a little exercise in while you are at it. There were cards most every day except the day we played Bunco. We have a great group that comes once a month to play Bunco. If you are interested in joining, just give Tammy a call, we can always use more players.

Our trip to Deadwood will be on the 28th.

October is one of my very favorite months as Fall is really here and the trees are changing colors. Speaking of colors, we will be taking our October trip to Spearfish Canyon on the 12th. We will hopefully see the mountain goats again, some beautiful colors and the waterfalls. We will also be having lunch at the Latchstring Inn and then stopping at the farmer’s market before heading home. Please let Tammy know if you would like to take this trip with us.

Stitching and Lunch will be on the 10th and 24th. There is always a wonderful lunch served after a couple of hours of visiting and stitching (it’s mostly visiting) and then we play cards the rest of the afternoon. As always, we would love to have some new people join us. Ladies Lunch Out will be on the 19th at noon at Seabeck’s Pizza; all ladies are welcome to join us. Bunco will be held on the 26th at 1 p.m. Then we are upon HALLOWEEN. We will be handing out goodies to the kids throughout the day.

Medicare open enrollment will be starting soon and Linda Wolff is your go to lady. She will be here at the center on October 11th and 25th. Please give Tammy a call at 436-2635 to set up an appointment if you need to see her. At this time of year her time slots fill up fast.

I will be away from the center on October 18th and 19th and possibly some days the following week. If you need me, you can leave a message on the machine as I will be checking it often and I will get back with you.

We appreciate those people who donate to the Food Bank and Senior Center each month, the little extras that they bring are so nice. In September Ginger Johnstone, Lori Dinstel and Donna Giacometto brought us eggs, Cathy Ruland, Bonnie Lyda, Kathy Heidel and Jeanne Sparks brought in lots of nice fresh produce and Joyce Strobel and Ann Mackaben brought in food pantry items. Thank you all so much.

I need to give a HUGE shout out again to Southeastern Electric Cooperative in Ekalaka for their VERY generous donation of meat to our food bank. Our freezer is full and we are so grateful.

Congregate Meals:

10/4—Steak/Black Bean Soup, Taco Grande, Pineapple Upside Down Cake

10/11—Vegetable Soup, Chicken/ Dumplings, Mashed Potatoes, Cookie

10/18—Clam Chowder Soup, Fish/Chips, Brownies

10/25—Broccoli Cheese Soup, Ham, Scalloped Potatoes, Apple Pie

Just a couple of reminders, we have 4 bookshelves full of different genres of books so please come down and help yourself to some good reading. The center will be closed on October 9th in Observance of Columbus Day. I think that is all I have for you this month.

Have a spooktacular October everyone!
