Spotty Moisture Punctuates A Warm September

The month of September was a bit warmer than average across the area, while precipitation totals were extremely spotty, as portions of the county received heavy rainfall on multiple occasions throughout the month, while others received below average moisture.

The overall average temp for the month in Broadus was 65.8 degrees, or 3.4 degrees warmer than average. The high for the month was 97 on September 3rd, and the low was 40, achieved on both September 12th and 16th.

Broadus received 1.34" of precip in September, above the average of 1.23". Rain fell on multiple occasions spread throughout the month, with at least 2/10" received on a roughly weekly basis.

The Biddle 8 miles SW station received a healthy 2.19" of precip in September, as storms tended to track west and south of Broadus on several occasions. The high for the month was 96 on the 2nd and 3rd, and the low was 42, on the 16th.

The Moorhead 9 miles NE station had 2.44" in September, over double their average of 1.05". The largest single day of rainfall was September 4th, with 0.80".

Their high for the month was 96 on the 3rd, and the low was 40, on the 25th.

The RAWS station at Bradshaw Creek near Moorhead was the precipitation winner for September, as it recorded a whopping 4.91" of precip, with 1.54" on the 4th. That station also had 0.88" on the 9th, and over 7/10 each day between the 21st-23rd. Eleven days of the month had recorded precip.

Their high was 94 on the 3rd, and the low was 45, on the 11th.

The Sonnette 7 miles SW station had a great month of rain, with 4.64" of moisture. 1.15" of that total fell on the 4th, with an astounding 2.41" on the 22nd.

That station had a high of 94 on the 2nd, and a low of 38, recorded multiple days between the 11th and 25th.

The Fort Howes RAWS station had 3.42" of precip in September, with 1.25" as a high on the 22nd. That station reached 96 on the 3rd and fell to 40 on the 25th. The peak wind gust was 43 on the 3rd, marking a very hot and windy day with a low of 16% humidity.

Volborg had 1.58" of rain in September, with 0.93" of that total on the 23rd.

The Powderville 8 miles NNE station was the only local NOAA station to reach 100 in September, as the high for the month topped out at precisely 100 degrees on September 3rd. They reached a low of 39, on the 16th. That station was also the driest in the area, with only 0.57" in September, compared to an average of 1.25".

Broadus received its first freezing temperatures of the fall season on October 6th, with temps hitting 28 at the courthouse.
