Cory Seamann is the newest deputy in Powder River County, having taken the oath of office on Monday of this week.

Seamann was sworn in by Justice of the Peace Cathy Landa in the courtroom, joining Sheriff Devin Boman, Undersheriff Ayche Draine, and Deputies Ishmael Perrin and Levi Mitchell on the force.

Cory grew up on a ranch in rural Burwell, Nebraska, and served in the Army National Guard while also ranching and cowboying. He is best known locally for his custom leather shop, Coyote Valley Saddle Shop, which he opened in Broadus back in summer of 2019. In addition to his duties as deputy, Cory is currently working part-time at the saddle shop completing previously made orders, and is not taking on new work at this time.

Deputy Seamann told us that he had always been open to the idea of becoming a law enforcement officer, and that motivation helped him decide to put in his application. He noted that growing up in a small town and his time spent living in Broadus will help him relate to the locals he has sworn to serve – knowing the people and the area will serve as assets.

"I'm looking forward to helping folks out," he commented.

Seamann will be engaged in field training until a slot becomes available at the Montana Law Enforcement Academy. Currently, Deputy Perrin is at the academy, and Deputy Mitchell is set to attend the next available class. Deputy Seamann will then attend the next class where space is available.
