The 2024 Montana Grasshopper Hazard Map from the USDA is shown below. This is a forecast based on our Adult survey data collected during the 2023 season. Although the predication is concerning, environmental factors could influence the reality next spring/summer. A similar map from 2023 showed the vast majority of Powder River County in the 3-<8 zone.

The 2024 grasshopper prediction map is sobering, according to Powder River Extension Agent Mary Rumph. Much of the county is in the 8-15 grasshoppers per square yard; with a few areas in the "red zone", 15 grasshoppers or more....
