Fifteen Teen 4-Hers, standing at the rear of the picture, organized the 4-H Mini-Congress 2023 event in Broadus last Wednesday during the holiday break. Teen 4-Hers are the best when it comes to creating a fun time for young people. This year, the 4-H Mini-Congress event was organized by a record number of fifteen Teen 4-Hers for an equally impressive number of participants, forty-seven youth in grades 3rd through 7th, who enjoyed being with friends and having fun.

"The teens are the key for a positive and welcoming experience," commented MSU Powder River Extension Agent Julie Riley. "Their enthusiasm, leadership and organizational skills were impressive," she added.

Teen 4-Hers Laney Williams and Jordyn Schroeder began the event with ice breaker activities including the "Name Game" and "Human Knot" and a team building activity with hula hoops. Participants then went to workshops taught by the teens. Hanna Dudek taught how to make paper flowers; Noah Dudek challenged participants with several science-related activities including making a stress ball with orbeez and balloons; Darren VerWolf, Laney Williams and Baylor Kuhbacher led kids in playing Cornhole; Jayce Schroeder, Kassie Hagedorn and Danica Schroeder taught basketball; Kayleigh Nisley, Liv Landa and Kassie Hagedorn taught volleyball; and Kayleigh and Liv also taught kids snack and granola-making workshops. Other Teen 4-Hers who assisted with teaching the workshops or leading ice breaker activities were Christian Oylear, Kade VerWolf and Aidan Roberts.

Karry Sisk, Prevention Specialist, led an art workshop with kids painting Vincent Van Gogh's "Starry Night".

A popular twist this year was concluding the event by watching the movie "Home Alone" at Seabeck while dining on Seabeck pizza.

"Brilliant idea. It was so nice to have Doug Wilbert, Kelda Page and Jennifer Rosencranz accommodate the large number of Mini-Congress participants", said one parent. "Great venue for the movie and delicious pizza," she added.
