HS Team Prepares For Tournaments

The Hawk Dome was filled from floor to rafter with wrestling fans last Thursday, as Broadus hosted a Dual against Custer County's High School and AAU teams. 41 AAU matches took place during the meet, along with matches for the high school wrestlers on a second mat.

Prior to that event, Broadus wrestled at Miles City against MC and Huntley wrestlers on Tuesday. On Friday, the Hawks hosted Sidney's JV wrestlers, then on Saturday Broadus traveled to Hardin for the Battle on The Bighorn, featuring wrestlers from primarily South Central Montana such as Hardin, Laurel, Billings, and Red Lodge, but also a smattering of teams from around the East, and Northern Wyoming.

The quick turn around between events, as well as the need to weigh-in just prior to the event and not have a night to recover proved to be a test for the wrestlers, according to Coach Frankie Schoonover.

The Hardin meet marked the final regular season competition for Broadus, as they prepare this week for the Divisional Meet in Wolf Point, over the weekend.

"The team is ready and where we need to be for tournaments," Schoonover commented on a phone call Monday. "We won't have any major changes this week in practice, we're just looking to hone that edge to have our wrestlers sharp for Wolf Point."

The Hawks leave for Wolf Point on Thursday following a pep rally scheduled for 1:40 PM, and will weigh in with time for a bit of energy recovery before their matches begin Friday.

Schoonover is taking all 10 boys and 5 girls to Wolf Point – the largest Hawk team he's taken to Divisionals in his coaching career.
