Dora Means

February 15, 2024

Dora Jane Geer was born May 21, 1925, in her grandparents' log cabin by the Little Powder River near Biddle Montana to H.W "Had" & Lois "Tiny" (Higgins) Geer. She grew up on her parents' ranch on Blacktail Creek and attended a small country elementary school. She attended high school in Gillette, Wyoming & Broadus, Montana. She had two sisters, Ila & Nola, and brother Chan.

On March 17, 1947, she married Ray Harvey and they made their home on the Harvey ranch on Bowers Creek, south of Biddle. Ray & Dora had five children: Dan, Dorla, Sharon, Ronnie and Randy. Ray passed away in September of 1971. On August 7, 1987, she married Ward Means and they made their home in Sheridan, Wyoming. Ward passed away in 2004.

Dora moved to Forsyth, Montana in 2006 to be near her son Ronnie and daughter Sharon. She enjoyed her time in Forsyth, making new friends, tending to her many flowers and plants, crafting and crocheting, playing Pinochle, collecting owl figurines and enjoying Sunday "church services" with special friend Mary Mae Nipple. Dora's last two years were spent residing at Aspen View Independent Living in Billings where more new friendships were made.

She was a proud 50+ year member of the Order of Eastern Star and was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary.

Dora was preceded in death by her parents, husbands Ray and Ward, sisters Ila Mader and Nola McHenry, son Dan Harvey, daughter Dorla Smith, son-in-law Carl Smith and grandson Tom Smith. She is survived by her brother Chan Geer, daughter Sharon Borla, son Ronnie (Sharilyn) Harvey, son Randy (Jean) Harvey, four grandchildren, Jeff, Jessica, Alexis and Daniel, four great grandsons, Jakob, Jackson, Andrew and Matthew, and sister-in-law Joan (Means) Dinsmoore. Dora is also survived by special nieces and nephews who fondly referred to her as "Aunt Jack."

Dora's family would like to express their gratitude to the staff at Aspen View, Lainey Reynolds-Keene, RN & staff, and Stillwater Hospice for the amazing care she received during her time in Billings.
