SENIOR HAPPENINGS

April 25, 2024

By Senior Center Director Tammy Jackman

April showers bring May flowers and digging in the dirt! Hello from the Senior Center gang. We are excited for the summer months to come because that means TRIPS! I have several in the works so be sure and watch the paper and the face book page to see where we will be off to.

April was a pretty quiet month. We had many afternoons of hand and foot cards, a couple of stitching and lunch days, several days of SAIL exercises and chair yoga, a lady’s lunch out at Seabeck’s which is always a hit and of course bunco.

May will bring warmer weather and the end of the SAIL exercises for the summer on the 15th. Chair yoga will also end for the summer on the 30th, BUT we will still have cards every afternoon and our stitching and lunch on the 7th and 21st. We are still looking for any ladies who crochet, knit, embroidery or cross-stitch to join us for a morning of sewing, visiting and then an amazing lunch is served at noon. Ladies Lunch Out will be on the 16th, come join us at Powder River Lanes for lunch and more visiting. Yes, we are a chatty group! Bunco will be held on the 30th. I am trying to keep it on the last Thursday of the month, we can always use more permanent players and also substitutes. The more tables, the more fun!

Linda Wolff will be at the center on May 8th. If you need to see her, please let Tammy know ASAP as her slots always fill up quickly.

On a serious note, there have been a bunch of scams going on in our little corner of the world. Phoebe Amsden came by the congregate meal to visit with everyone about some of them and yes, they have happened to people here. Scammers exploit a person’s relationships and connections to manipulate victims and they prey on your emotions to make you think you will be missing out on a great deal if you don’t follow thru with their instructions. They may also threaten legal trouble, promise high investment returns and share fabricated stories to elicit sympathy to gain financial assistance. There is also a scam called PHISHING. Scammers will send you an email from what looks like a legitimate person or business (this has happened to me here at the center), always look closely at the email address, the actual email will likely be different.

There are several FAKE CHECK SCAMS please do not give out any information to anyone you do not know. If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is and it could possibly drain your bank account. If you would like additional information, go to https://dojmt.gov/consumer, or stop by the bank and visit with the girls there, they deal with these situations often. Also, Medicare WILL NOT call you and ask for your Medicare number PLEASE do not give it out.

Thank you to all who have donated to the Senior Center and Food Pantry this month: Louise Wilson and Donna Giacometto for eggs, the Devore Family and Kaycee Kolka for the food pantry items. There are many people who don’t want their name in the paper and that is absolutely fine, just know we appreciate your donation very much.

Just a reminder that the Senior Center will be closed on Monday, May 27th in observance of Memorial Day and Tammy will be out of the office on Tuesday, May 21st. Enjoy the sunshine!
