School Board Holds May Meeting

The Broadus school board trustees met for their May meeting on May 20th, a week later than originally set forth due to a lack of quorum.

The board first heard from Jayce Schroeder, incoming Student Body President for the Class of 2025, who introduced himself to the board.

The results of the school board election were read, with Waylon Billing garnering 285 votes, 200 for Bobbi Myers, and 76 for Katherine Myers. Billing and Bobbi Myers will fill the two open positions on the board.

District Clerk Dixie Mitchell indicated that voter turn-out was lower than in previous years.

The board approved the election canvas, with Bobbi and Waylon then taking their oaths of office.

Amanda Zimmer was elected as Board Chairman, with Rob Jones elected as Vice-Chairman. Both individuals previously held those positions. Trustees were also placed on committees; the committees stayed as before, with Bobbi Myers taking outgoing board member Dan Krantz’s place on the committees which he was previously assigned.

Dixie Mitchell was rehired as District Clerk.

Discussion was held on the South Stacey board position. Shasta Madsen has agreed to stay on another year in that position.

The board next considered a bid for technology services from K-12 Montana, an IT firm based in Great Falls. The bid of $3,475 per month was accepted; this bid will include two days per month of in-person tech support, along with on call remote tech support. This service handles a large variety of tech related tasks within the school, from Chromebook to email to many other technology related tasks which are a part of modern life.

The board then entered the hiring and resignation portion of the evening.

Cody Earley was hired as summer school teacher, and Mike Richards as a summer worker.

Brooke Olsen was hired as Assistant Cook.

The board accepted the resignation of Levi Mitchell from his part time tech position (Levi will now be working through K-12 Montana, to retain some in-person tech availability locally).

Caroline Johnson resigned as 6th grade teacher.

The board then hired Frank Benson as JH/HS PE Teacher and HS Boys Basketball Coach. Mr. Benson most recently taught at Wolf Point.

Substitute Teacher pay was increased from the current $85 per day to a rate of $110 per day.

The next meeting of the board is scheduled for Monday, June 10th.
