The official national Arbor Day was April 30 and that day was also declared Arbor Day in Broadus by Mayor Lyman Amsden. However, there was no school that day, so the celebration was postponed. Broadus Elementary School is co-sponsoring the event. The celebration will begin at 8:30 a.m. in the elementary gym. Mayor Amsden will read the proclamation, followed by readings by the students. The 39th annual Boyes Italian Dinner has been rescheduled for Sunday, June 6th, at 1 PM. The Italian Dinner is normally held on or near Valentine’s Day, but this year the dinner was postponed due to the extreme cold, with the mercury dipping to -33 at Broadus on February 14th. All are cordially invited to this all you can eat buffet, which features authentic, traditional Italian dishes. Cost for ages 12 & up is $15, ages 6 to 10 is $10, and those age 6 and under eat free. The Broadus Track team competed once again at Laurel, last Saturday. The location is familiar to the team, after competing there earlier this year. This time around Laurel played host for the Park City/Harlowton Meet, and featured 25 schools with approximately 500 athletes in attendance. Broadus Head Coach Jerry Coulter told a variety of Class B schools attended the meet, including powerhouse schools such as Huntley Project and Big Timber. The team competed in Baker, Glendive, and at the Wibaux Triangular, which was also held in Baker, as well as Harlowton, for which results were not yet available at press time.
