Carcass grading utilizing ultrasound was part of the Powder River County Fair. Elin Kittelmann, NSIP/UGS Certified Ultrasound Technician from Ekalaka, showed 4-H members what the image looked like on the computer screen. Collecting data in this manner allowed for a carcass contest for lambs in addition to hogs and steers and helped ease over-crowding at processing plants.

The results of the 4-H Carcass contest were announced last week, according to Powder River Extension Agent Mary Rumph. An interested crowd of exhibitors and parents gathered at Broadus Meats for a visual inspection of a lamb, hog and beef carcass. Broadus Meats was thanked for the support of the Fair, the livestock auction and for hosting the show.

In addition, appreciation was expressed to 1st Bank for clerking; Ben Minow for brand inspecting; Jay Schroeder and Hattie Arithson for hauling livestock, and Jimmy Collins for photographing the livestock auction.
