Steps for Charity Challenge
February 13, 2020
"I LOVE the STEPS for CHARITY Challenge because now I think about how I can get more steps! When I drive to town, I park my car and WALK to run all my errands. I’ve learned that I can even get steps while brushing my teeth! It’s so much fun!” said, Dina Gay, member of School-house Walkers.
Thirty teams...120 highly motivated people have stepped up to WALK for the Steps for Charity Challenge, which means that $1,200 will be shared with 11 local CHARITIES.
When it’s COLD outside...
WALK at the high school! Hallways are open each Monday through Friday, from 7:00 a.m. until 8:00 a.m., and from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. Whether you are enrolled in Steps for Charity or just want to walk indoors, please sign in at the front door.
LIVE LONGER & HEALTHIER by WALKING MORE
A recent study adds to the evidence that brisk walking benefits your health. Brisk walking was associated with a 60% to 70% LOWER risk of death in a study of women with an average 72 years of age.
The study cited in Focus on Healthy Aging, Icahn School of Medi- cine at Mt. Sinai, reported that walking:
• Improves circulation;
• Helps heart and lungs work more efficiently;
• Burns calories;
• Boosts energy;
• Eases stress and tension;
And, if you walk with a friend, it's a great way to keep up the social interaction that preserves cognitive well-being.
