Public Reminded of Fire Danger

The former Belle Creek School, now a residence and shop owned by Jerry Lei, burned down in late February. The PR County Sheriff’s Department says the Fire Marshal looked at pictures of the burned building and there was not enough evidence to determine the cause of the fire, as the building was a total loss. Several vehicles were inside and were also consumed.

Raymond Ragsdale with the Broadus VFD reminds folks to be fire conscious – with people home for long periods of time and dry conditions in the area, he says a fire could get big in a hurry. Raymond says to keep flammables away from wood burning stoves, to provide proper space for electric heaters, and to only keep electric appliances plugged in when they are being used. While a person is home, it’s also a good time to check your smoke detectors.
