What do kids do when they turn off the TV or computer screen? Powder River County kids read books, flew garbage bag kites, rode bikes, planted trees, helped grandma sew, built a fort, crocheted, tagged calves, practiced piano and they played and played! From playing family games and playing in the mud and in the pool to playing board games and cards and playing with a goat or with a horse, kids had time to PLAY!

“I milked a cow,” said one young participant, who spoke of her screen free time.

Screen Free Week takes place just one week each year each Spring. It’s a chance to learn how valuable and productive those moments can be when the TV is turned off.

“It always feels different knowing that screen time for my family is not an option. Thank you for this special week,” exclaimed a parent.

The MSU Extension Office – Powder River County, the Powder River 4-H Council and Teen 4-H sponsored the prizes for the participants.

Participants include Trace, Maci and Reece Emmons, Paisley Harper, Annabel Jesttes, Joelle, Jaelyn and Tyler Jurica, Sawyer and Sophie Ostendorf, Anna Hagedorn, John, Noah and Hanna Dudek, Sutton and Kimber Hodge, Bonita Kinzer, Rachel Rosencranz, Reagan Boman and Kambry Yonkee.
