Stay Active and Independent for Life (SAIL) is an exercise program set to begin January 10th at the Powder River Senior Center in Broadus. Exercises are designed to maintain and improve balance in adults 65 and older. Exercises can be done either sitting or standing.

Falls are the leading cause of both fatal and nonfatal injuries for older adults, and one out of four older people falls each year. SAIL classes will help participants feel better, improve strength, flexibility and balance, and decrease the risk of falling.

The program will be held at 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays at the Senior Center. The classes are free; weights and both an exercise and an information guide will be provided. Julie Riley, MSU Extension Agent, will lead the one-hour classes that will run through April.

Contact the Extension Office at 436-2424 to register.
