The Inaugural Kelly Compton Memorial Golf Scramble was held July 15th, at Rolling Hills Golf Course in Broadus.

Nine teams of four players competed through smoky conditions in the tournament. A silent auction was held for four high school players, with winning bidders adding one of the high school players to their team, to make a fifth golfer. The four Broadus high school golfers included Emma Isaacs, Graci Barbero, Grayson Arithson, and Macyn McDowell.

The winning team was Chad Gatlin, Dan McDowell, Tyler Gardner, Kelli Knuths Gardner, and Macyn McDowell. The winning team won custom belt buckles, as well as a stay at the Devil's Tower Golf Course.

Coming in 2nd, after a tie breaker was the team of William Lee Janssen, Wiley Snell, Pat Bishop, Dirk Schmidt, and Graci Barbero. The second place team won four rounds of golf at Bully Pulpit golf course in Medora, ND, as well as golf club covers.

The tournament was held in celebration of Kelly Compton, a former Billings Police Department officer and Billings student resource officer who grew up in Broadus, who passed away this spring. Kelly was well liked by many, and over the years he made an impact on many kids in the Billings community – for example, a group of kids from Billings competed in the tournament on Saturday.

The tournament was run by Thadd O'Donnell, Dickinson State University Golf Coach and friend of Kelly. A $500 scholarship and memorial buckle was also presented to a graduating Broadus Senior this year, presented by a group of former DSU wrestlers who wrestled with Kelly in the late 1980s. That scholarship was presented to Marcus Mader.
